private time, public space

2017Performance Documentation

The video version of private time, public space emphasizes the isolation, vulnerability, and strange glamor of standing outside a gallery while everyone else gathers inside. Asthma kept me from entering — the smoke made it impossible — so I became a figure at the threshold, waving from the cold while the warmth and noise of the party unfolded behind the glass. The video uses slow edits, soft music, and lingering shots to exaggerate the atmosphere. People come out to hug me. Others glance over from inside. I wave at silhouettes across the room. The camera captures the loneliness and tenderness of the moment: someone excluded by the body's limits, yet still seeking connection. The footage turns an awkward, accidental moment into something cinematic. A ritual of being outside the "cool" space, watching life through a doorway. A portrait of displacement framed with care.
