private time, public space
This performance took place on a cold evening in Leipzig. Inside the gallery, people smoked freely. I had recently developed asthma and could no longer enter spaces filled with smoke. The simplest cultural act — walking into a gallery — became impossible. So I remained outside, exposed, visible, alone. The work unfolded in the gap between private vulnerability and public spectacle. I sat apart from the gathering, watching through the doorway while coughing gently and trying to stay grounded. Many people eventually came outside. Some hugged me. Some lingered quietly. They witnessed a displacement that was not theatrical but human. Leipzig's atmosphere played its own role. The situation felt suspended in time, as if the city were still holding onto an older era with different rules. This made the piece feel strangely historic and tender, like an accidental reenactment of another decade. private time, public space explored the moment when the body refuses participation. It highlighted the fragility of access, the limits of inclusion, and the tenderness that can emerge when someone stands apart and is still seen.
